We have heard a lot about biochar lately and find that many are confused about whether this charcoal (yes, a word which includes “coal”) can really be a good thing. This article by The Economist does a great job of explaining how biochar enriches the soil while reducing GHG emissions:

On a recent business trip to D.C., we opted to stay in Dupont Circle at the Hotel Madera (a Kimpton Hotel). We were pleasantly surprised and impressed by their sustainability practices and wanted to share them with you.
Over 700 attendees representing the leading green technology firms and venture capital firms engaged in two days of presentations, networking sessions and exhibit hall demonstrations at the Pasadena Convention Center on August 1-3rd.
